Venice landmarks to visit for stunning grid pictures
Some of the best places to visit in Venice are also the most beautiful, and lend themselves to amazing photography. This is why you will see so many stunning photos taken on this dreamy lagoon getaway. I can wholeheartedly say Venice has been one of my favourite trips and the pictures we managed to capture here are some of my favourite ever. One of the best things to do in Venice is wander the streets and get lost exploring the beautiful alleyways, bridges and sights that hide around every corner. In this guide I wanted to put together some of the must visit spots on your travels to Venice to indulge in a spot of Instagramming that will make you and your surroundings look incredible!
Rialto Bridge
I had to start here, because if you visit Venice, this is the Bridge that everyone mentions seeing. Duck down into one of the alleyways just before the bridge itself to take a more unusual picture of the bridge . Here you can get right down to the waters edge which makes for a stunning shot.
Ponte Chiodo
Why should you remember this particular bridge out of the 446 in Venice? Because the Ponte Chiodo is the last remaining bridge without balustrades. All bridges were built this way at first, with no side protection. However, parapets were erected for safety concerns starting in the nineteenth century. On the island of Torcello, just two bridges have been preserved in their original state: Ponte Chiodo and Ponte del Diavolo. Many visitors stroll on by without noticing these two special bridges which means you might have a good opportunity to take the perfect photo on the bridge.
Riva degli Schiavoni
Head down to the Riva degli Schiavoni for some great shots close to the water. Here you are able to stroll amongst the other tourists just a stones throw for Doge’s Palace. My tip here is to grab a glass of wine or Spritz from one of the stalls along the promenade and enjoy it at the waterfront, away from the pricey cafes, which is just what I’m doing here. In my opinion, this is one of the more unusual things to do in Venice that you won’t regret.
The Sospiri Bridge
The Ponte dei Sospiri (lit. The Bridge of Sighs) is one of Venice's most photographed bridges, located just a few steps from Piazza San Marco. So, why is it known as "dei sospiri"? Its name is most likely related to the bridge's original purpose: a double corridor between the Prigioni Nuove (New Prisons) and the Palazzo Ducale. The convicts are believed to have sighed as they crossed the bridge, knowing that it would be their final look of the outside world before being imprisoned. You might have to fight the other tourists here for a good shot but it really is worth waiting it out to get the shot you want.
Libreria Acqua Alta
Another one of the more unusual things to do in Venice. Libreria Acqua Alta, the bookshop, is a true camera star! Stacks of books are stored in boats, gondolas, and even a bathtub in this completely instagrammable area in Venice. It may appear strange, but it's actually a clever structure that helps Venice avoid the harm caused by high water (acqua alta), a recurring menace to the shopkeepers and restaurateurs in Venice.
Venice rainbow apartments
Could this BE any more Venetian?! Most of these rooms are filled with colour and are a photoshoot in themselves. This hotel is also conveniently close to San Marco as well. Bonus.

Try Cicchetti
As you walk the streets you’ll probably see these tasty little bites advertised as a set price for a certain number or alongside a Spritz or Prosecco. My advice?.....just try them, they are delicious! They come in a range of different toppings and are the perfect little bite to eat on a pitstop in Venice. While you are there, enjoy it alongside an Aperol Spritz or prosecco. You can probably tell I ate and drank my way through Venice and I wouldn't have it any other way!
Fondamenta della Misericordia
Are you looking for even more hidden gems? Tired of "fighting" with visitors that constantly photobomb your shots? Go for a stroll through Fondamenta della Misericordia. This calm location retains its Venetian authenticity: you'll mostly meet locals here, and you'll be able to snap stunning shots without being bothered.
Scala Contarini del Bovolo
This stairway is one of the most unique instances of Venetian architecture, as well as one of the best panoramic sites in the city, providing a unique perspective on San Marco's bell tower. The name comes from the Venetian word "bovolo," which means "snail" in Italian, and refers to the shape of the staircase that ascends the cylindrical tower. Each floor features a magnificent loggia with arches that photographers frequently use to frame their photographs.
Burano
Burano is the daddy, the big Kahuna of Instagram worthy pictures when visiting Venice. Burano's vibrant homes, which are frequently seen on Venetian Lagoon postcards, are a veritable rainbow of hues. You can't go wrong here because the village's brightly painted walls make every house, bridge, and corner highly picturesque. Caffe Florian
Caffè Florian holds the distinction of being Venice's oldest café. It was founded in 1720, and its exquisite interiors, as well as its famous sign, are known all over the world.I recommend photographing it from beneath the porch, including the shop windows below, That's if you choose to stay outside and not enter in for a sit down and a bite to eat!
Generator hostel, Venice
If you are looking for a great budget friendly hotel to stay in that also has the ability to become a great backdrop for some stunning insta snaps then definately check out Generator hostel. I loved this place and would happily stay here on my next trip to Venice.
Gelatoteca SuSo
The most delicious Gelato in Venice! We may have visited this little gem more than once on our trip. Gelatoteca SuSo is also conveniently located next door to this beautiful bridge which makes it easy to snap a perfectly instagrammable picture before you.
Fondaco dei Tedeschi
Panoramic vistas of Venice are extremely uncommon. Throughout, there are only a few panoramic viewpoints in the city. The Fondaco dei Tedeschi's balcony near Rialto is the most magnificent. It is regarded as the best panoramic point in the city, with a 360-degree view of Venice and the Grand Canal. Ride a Gondola in Venice
If you come to Venice you need to have a gondola ride. Of course, it’s worth it for the picture but these rides can be pretty pricey so make sure you spend your time taking in the ambience of being rowed through the venice lagoons.

When you arrive in Venice you will realise that every street, alleyway, doorway is just beautiful and completely photo worthy! Spend some time heading off the beaten track and away from tourists to grab some instagrammable snaps of your trip.
